RAIL UNION LEARNING (RUL)

Railnews

As of the November 2009 issue, copies of Railnews will be delivered directly to the crew room vice White Rose Court (where nobody could get hold of them).

Woking Train Crew Reading Group

Woking Train Crew Reading Group currently has 11 members who choose from a list of good books each month. The group have so far read 8 books together creating stimulating conversation and debate in the mess room. If you would like to join the group, please speak to Martin Scott. (It's free).

Computer - Top Mess Room

We now have the computer in the top mess room available for Internet use for educational purposes. The username and password are located in the RUL cabinet just above the computer. Please do not change the password as this means no one can use the facility.

Courses

If anybody wishes to take up a course but is concerned about shifts, the Learning Agreement between ASLEF and SWT means there is some flexibility to be able to get round this. SWT have to look at movement of Free Days, flexible shift patterns etc. to accomodate individuals undertaking courses. For more details see your Learning Rep.

ASLEF and Rail Union Learning are currently discussing with South West Trains Ltd the closure of the Open Learning Centres which are currently unstaffed and thus unavailable to staff and serving very little purpose.

The improvement of Depot facilties to to include 'Learning Zones' with Broadband access is also being discussed at this level.

Surrey County Council have offered £4000 for Cycle facilities following our participation in their 'Cycle to Work' scheme and discussions with Local Management are taking place on how best to use this money.

Keep your eye on the RUL notice board at Woking Depot (and this webpage) for future information, intiatives and events.
